The book was published in 1957 (a very good year), by Dr. Seuss. The original How the Grinch Stole Christmas cartoon was first aired in 1966.
Seuss's point, that the true spirit of Christmas doesn't live in the material gifts we give but in the caring and kindness we show, is timeless. The newer movie starring Jim Carrey is good - but the original will always be my favorite.
